Children’s Art Exhibition: “1 World, 1 Family” – An Awareness Campaign on
Violence against Children
In conjunction
with ‘International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression’
The United Nations’ International Day of Innocent
Children Victims of Aggression (IDICVA) is observed on June 4 each
year to acknowledge the pain suffered by children throughout the world, who are
the victims of physical, mental and emotional abuse.
It is a time for individuals (parents, teachers, care-givers and
public) and organizations to become aware of the impact of monstrosity of
abuse, in all its forms, against children. Therefore, it is the responsibility
of each and every one of us to create a safe and secure environment for
children by bringing greater awareness in society.
Community Organisation for Inner Learning
Selangor (COIL) and Brahma Kumaris Malaysia,
in co-operation with many NGOs and charity organizations caring for children’s
welfare such as, CHILD Information Learning & Development Centre, Persatuan
Kebajikan Suara Kanak-kanak Malaysia (SUKA Society), Agathians Shelter Home,
Zomi Education Centre, Tamil Forum Malaysia, Association of Registered
Childcare Providers Malaysia, Women’s Aid Organization and Berjaya University
College of Hospitality students are organizing the IDICVA Awareness
Campaign from May till July 2012. This Campaign is supported and
endorsed by UNICEF Malaysia.
The Launching Ceremony of IDICVA was held on Saturday, 2nd June 2012 from 3.00 until 6.00 pm at Harmony House, Brahma Kumaris
The 3- hour program was consisted of
addresses by representatives of Ministry of Women, Family and Community
Development, SUHAKAM and UNICEF on measures taken to curb child abuse in
Malaysia. The speeches were intervened by children’s performance expressing
their hope and vision of a brighter future. The highlight of the event was pledging for IDICVA
2012 i.e. to make a commitment to reduce abuse at all level of thoughts, words
and actions.
As a part of this campaign, a Children’s Art Exhibition and performances will also be held on Sunday, 15th July 2012, at Berjaya Times Square, Kuala Lumpur (Lower Ground Concourse area) exhibiting artworks of children affected by abuse to express their positive visions of an ideal home / school environment and the kind of society that they would like to be part of. There will be Children’s performances from various NGOs and child-care centers in the afternoon from 3.00pm to 5.30pm. This art exhibition would be officiated by Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development Malaysia.
Another highlight of this campaign
would be Forum IDICVA 2012 for youth and university students would be held at
the end of July 2012 at Berjaya Hotel, Kuala Lumpur . For
